Duration 1 day
GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) became fully operational in 1999. This latest development in marine communications adds a new feature to the long established VHF radio with the introduction of DSC (Digital Selective Calling). An RYA VHF/SRC handbook will be sent for you to read and prepare in advance of the course. An administration fee of £30 payable to the RYA on the day for the radio licence and you will need to bring passport photo.
The SRC is a mandatory qualification for operators on small craft fitted with VHF/DSC equipment and is a pre-requisite for anyone taking the RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Offshore practical exam.
